We at nottuo handled the branding for “Echitora (越虎),” a long-established specialist tuna wholesaler in the Toyosu Market with over 100 years of history. Our work included designing their logo, website, e-commerce site, business cards, packaging, and leaflets.
The project was once interrupted due to the impact of COVID-19, but we were able to resume it following the subsequent increase in inbound tourism and retail demand. We incorporated into the design the artisan spirit and “Edokko” (true Tokyoite) character of President Kurihara, as well as the dignified presence of a long-established business.
Previously, direct sales to the general public were only available during the year-end and New Year holidays. With this branding initiative, they began year-round sales. Their Instagram posts reached one million views from users worldwide, and we assisted them in establishing a new system for year-round sales through their own e-commerce site.
When significant external environmental changes occur, we inevitably feel the limitations of design that focuses solely on appearance.
However, if we can assist from the highest levels of management, using design as a tool, we should be able to support businesses by creating transformations through design, such as new ventures or new sales channels.
This project reaffirmed for us at nottuo the breadth and importance of our role.
