Nottuo was in charge of designing two new types of guest rooms proposed by “Kifu no Sato” in Okayama Yunogo Onsen.
Semi-Sweet New Western-style Room “Syakunage
While using traditional Japanese materials and style, the room was designed to propose a new Western-style room in a Japanese ryokan by unraveling modern lifestyles.
The furniture is composed of contemporary design items with a Japanese base, and the intention was to create a room that includes both Japanese and Western elements from a modern perspective.
In designing two semi-suite rooms from the existing three rooms under the condition of low ceiling height, the project proposed two types of rooms: Japanese-style rooms and Western-style rooms.
In the Western-style room, the plastered clay walls are symbolic, and the low ceiling height creates a sense of security in a somewhat cavernous and enveloping space.
